Sink or Swim

Real Estate can be a very intense industry. There's always a deadline to be made or a contingency to be fulfilled. Everybody wants what they want and needs what they need RIGHT NOW (or yesterday)! We often have to work with people who are pushy and demanding and sometimes even arrogant but there's still a job that has to be done for our clients. On top of working on behalf of our clients, we're working for ourselves because when deals don't close, commission checks don't get cut and our bills must be paid whether a seller discovers a cloud on their title after ratification or not! All of this can apply a great deal of pressure, which begs the question - how do you perform under pressure?

Here's where the phrase "sink or swim" comes into play. This phrase basically means to fail or to succeed entirely by one's own efforts. So, when a property has multiple offers, do you "sink" and tell your buyer to move on because it's too competitive or do you "swim" and empower your buyer to write a winning offer at highest and best? When you close a deal with a knowledgeable and successful agent, do you "sink" and not inquire about sponsoring them into the Exit system or do you "swim" and invite them out to coffee or lunch and educate them about the best real estate brokerage in the nation? When a tenant comes to you for help finding a rental property, do you "sink" and look for an $1800 per month property or do you "swim" and connect them to a lender to get them approved to buy?

This business is all about making choices. Would you rather drown in the ocean or do the back stroke in the beautiful waters of the caribbean? The choice is yours!
