What are we committed to? Who are we committed to? How do we decide to commit to someone or something? How do we feel when someone commits to us?

Commitment is defined as the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. It's also an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action; a responsibility, action or duty. When we think about commitment, we often reflect on our relationships. Marriage is a form of commitment. You make a conscious decision to commit your life to another person.
